Square Peg, Round Hole

Fitting in with the herd isn’t for everyone

Sometimes in life we find ourselves trying to contort who we truly are.

Contort into what others expect of us.

Contort into what our job expects from us.

Contort into what the herd mentality expects from us.

Change can often be a positive. Stretching ourselves and pushing our boundaries occasionally is a must to keep growing. However, trying to be something we’re not will never be a good fit. It will never make us truly happy.

Our instincts and inner voice can often alert us to something that presents a challenge to who we are or who we truly want to be. Sometimes we need to override these alarms to get past a sticking point as part of developing ourselves. At other times we need to just stop, take stock and truly think about why they are sensitive. What is it they are trying to tell us?

If you find yourself contorting beyond what you are comfortable with and you don’t see light on the other side then maybe it’s time to take a step back.

Perhaps you’re not the problem. Perhaps there’s a bigger problem. Maybe you’re a square peg trying to fit into a round hole.

Rather than trying to change who we inherently are, surely it’s better to use our energy and talents to focus on finding a squarer hole instead. One that is likely to lead to less conflict, less need to contort who we are and mean more potential reward and happiness. A better fit all around.

If you’re square, be square, be proud and be the best version of you you can be! People will love you for it and more importantly, you’ll love you for it.
