Clarity Comes from Subtracting (Not Adding)

There is a clarity in subtracting.

Less clutter.

Less indecision.

Less room for doubt.

How and What We Can Subtract

Subtraction is something we do to get to the core of what’s really important.  We subtract commitments from our diary so we have time for friends and family.  We subtract clutter from our home so we have more space.  We subtract one sided relationships from our lives.  We subtract wasteful expenses so we can pour our hard earned money into passion projects and adventures instead.

Subtraction is a means to an end, not the end itself.  We subtract to get to our own version of a good life.

Going Against the Grain

Subtraction often runs counter to our culture.  We are sold, and end up chasing, more.  Moving in the opposite direction means we need to put the blinkers on.  We need to ignore the calls for more.  We need to forget more as the ultimate ideal.

The more we trim the fat the more room we have for what, and who, makes our hearts sing.  We get to what it is that really matters most.  We get to the real essentials.

Subtraction equals clarity.
