We can be our own worst enemies.
Getting angry and upset when things don’t go to plan. We try to control the uncontrollable.
We fret and get stressed about what we don’t have or haven’t achieved.
We complain. Never feeling like we have enough or are enough.
The truth, if we have a roof over our head and know where our next meal’s coming from, we are better off than many in the world. What we consider to be basics in our lives, others would consider to be riches and indulgences to be savoured.
The Power of Gratitude
Many of us have forgotten to practice being grateful.
Making room for gratitude can help keep life in perspective when it feels like things are just not going our way.
We focus less on what we don’t have and instead are thankful for all we do have.
We make time to notice the small everyday wonders all around us.
This leads to a deeper state of gratitude, wellness and general happiness with the way things are. We realise life is not too bad after all.
Realignment through Gratitude
Finding something to be grateful for can transform our outlook. It can alter our perspective for the better.
We can make time, every day, to reflect on something in our life we are grateful for. This doesn’t have to be time consuming or complicated.
We can ponder on one thing or come up with a handful. Many ways work.
What we’ll realise is that the things we so often consider small (a walk in the park, the birds singing, a cup of coffee with a loved one) are the big things. They add so much to our feelings of wellbeing.
Before complaining too loudly about our day, we can pause and reflect how lucky we are if what we’re complaining about can be considered a first world problem. Maybe, in the grand scheme of a life lived, it’s not a problem at all.
Most of us have so much to be grateful for if we just pause to reflect.
