As I write this, we are the midst of a global health pandemic that is impacting all of our lives.
Much has been written and said on this already. Whilst none of us know exactly how this will pan out, or what any long term impact will be, it’s very clear this is going to be a challenging time.
In challenging times it becomes very important for us to focus on the signal. To seek out sources of information and opinion that we can trust. Media, our leaders and politicians all have a key role to play (a duty of care) to ensure collectively we are getting the information we need. There needs to be transparency without scaremongering.
Some of us will be quick to panic, quick to worry. The truth is, neither does us any good. We need to be kinder to ourselves. Worse is when we try to panic others, or spread ill-formed views, without the facts in front of us. That approach helps no one.
The best many of us might be able to do in the short term is to act responsibly by listening to our leaders, and the advice of healthcare professionals. We all have a part to play in being a good citizen.
These are indeed strange and challenging times.
Seek out the signal my friends, look after yourselves and those you love most, be a good neighbour, be a good citizen. Reach out to loved ones (in virtual ways, if physical is not possible).
Hopefully, together we will get through this just as soon as we can.
