We can choose to meet today as the new day it is.
Or we can expect today to be the same as yesterday.
We can accept today for what it gives us.
Or we can bemoan the fact that ‘things are not like they used to be’. Complain that ‘we don’t get the breaks we once got’. Or predict that ‘things will never be good again’.
Our view of ‘normal’, is highly subjective. It’s also an illusion. A fabrication of our mind’s making.
The expectations we bring with us bias our own perception of normal. Our own flawed mindsets create a reality that was never quite there to begin with.
Own Your Outlook
There is lots we cannot control. Lots we will never have a grip on. However, most of us do have the benefit of being able to choose our mindset.
What does this mean?
We can choose to appreciate what we have, not always focus on what we think is missing.
We can treat ourselves (and others) with kindness and compassion.
We can learn to foster a positive outlook, even in adverse conditions. Especially in adverse conditions.
Whether today feels ‘normal’ or not, we can try our best to navigate it as well as we can. Being kind to ourselves if we need to be, resetting our expectations along the way. Learning to detach from those expectations that are proving not to serve us.
Your new normal is here – what you do with it, how you react to it, how your roll with it, is mostly in your gift.
