Being of Service is an Attitude

“We are all the leaves of one tree. We are all the waves of one sea.”Thich Nhat Hanh

Being of service is a phrase that is often thrown around.  But have you ever really taken the time to sit down and think about what it means and how you can apply it to your own life?

Being of service isn’t limited to saving lives or the world at large.

Writing and sharing our words can be of service to the reader.

Making and playing music is being of service to the listener.

Mentoring or teaching others, sharing our knowledge and experience, is being of service.

Giving a little spare change each month to a charity that means something to you is being of service.

Helping a neighbour in with their shopping is being of service.

There are many ways that all of us can be of service to others and the world around us.  Small acts of kindness add up.  Each can make the world a slightly better place to be.

Find a Cause and Get Behind It

Being of service is an attitude we can carry with us, a mindset we can adopt.  It’s how we view the world.  It’s how we approach our day.  It gives us a positive focus and a deep sense of purpose.

We can choose to apply this attitude to everything we do.  Or, we can be more selective and target a singular cause we can truly get behind.  There are no rules, other than seeking to be of value.

Embrace the attitude of being of service.  Make your world, and someone else’s, a little better in your own special way.
