“Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.”

– Thich Nhat Hanh

Like many around the world, I was saddened to hear news of Thich Nhat Hanh’s passing.

A bastion of peace and often considered the ‘modern father of mindfulness’.   A man committed to living mindfully and peacefully during his 95 years.  Focused on leaving lightness, joy and good in the world, he has inspired many to live more presently and intentionally.  His influence rippled around the globe, over decades. A source of positivity for so many.

Thich’s books, words and work have had a profound impact on me.  Several of his works are ones I enjoy reading and re-reading.  Learning something new on each pass.  Trying to establish something that will serve me in my own journey and practice.

Thich made meditation more accessible to me.  The concept of sitting in Zazen and staring into space is something I have long struggled with (I still do).  Amongst other topics, Thich shared the benefits of other ways of ‘meditating’ through walking mindfully and leveraging the breath in simple but powerful ways (practices I do try to follow).

Thich had a way of making the busy world we live in look immediately simpler with his calming, nurturing example.  There is a profound simplicity and deep wisdom in his words.  His work focused on trying to reconnect us all to the magic around us, in the everyday.

An amazing man and inspiration of what we can do by adopting simple self-care practices that can serve us, and the world we live in.  His example and way of living is one we can all learn something from.  There is much gold to be mined.

For the many gifts you left us with, we say thank you Thich.  Thank you for all you have done and for leaving us with a rich body of work that will live on and inspire many more of us to all try to be ‘a little more Thich’.

“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor,”

– Thich Nhat Hanh
